After breakfast, you’ll be taken to the entrance gate of Kilimanjaro National Park. You’ll then start your trek through the beautiful rainforest, where you might spot some monkeys. After 5 to 6 hours, you’ll reach the Machame Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.Day 3: Machame Camp (3,010 m) – New Shira Camp (3,845 m)
The day starts with a trek through steeper terrain, but the views of the mountain range make it worthwhile. You’ll reach the New Shira Camp by mid-afternoon, where you can enjoy breathtaking views, especially during sunset.Day 4: New Shira Camp (3,845 m) – Lava Tower (4,640 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)
Today, you’ll be hiking uphill for about 800 meters but camping only slightly higher than the night before to let your body get used to the altitude. The day starts with a long walk above the Shira Plateau, leading to the Lava Tower. You’ll notice fewer trees as you go higher, and the scenery will change into a desert. Then, the trail will take you through the large Barranco Valley, filled with interesting plants. After 6 to 7 hours, you’ll get to the beautiful Barranco Camp.Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,960 m) – Barafu Camp (4,640 m)
Today, you’ll start by climbing the Barranco Wall, with guides to help you through the tricky parts. Along the way, you’ll go up and down the ridge and see amazing views of Kibo’s south glacier. You’ll have lunch in the Karanga Valley and spend 2 to 3 hours climbing to Barafu Camp. Here, you can relax, have dinner, and prepare for an early night.Day 6: Barafu Camp (4,640 m) – Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) – Mweka Camp (3,080 m)
After a quick breakfast, the climb begins at midnight. Using flashlights, you’ll climb up the loose rocks of Kibo. After 5 to 7 hours in the dark, you’ll reach Stella Point (5,730 m), the crater’s edge. Another 1 to 2-hour climb along the crater ridge takes you to Uhuru Peak. From here, you can see the whole of Kilimanjaro as the sun rises. You’re now standing on the “Roof of Africa.” The way down retraces much of the same route, and by midday, you should arrive back at Barafu Camp. After a warm meal and a well-deserved 1 to 2-hour break, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for supper and a restful night.Day 7: Mweka Camp (3,080 m) – Mweka Gate (1,630 m) – Arusha
Your final day starts with an excellent breakfast and a goodbye from the mountain crew. Then, there’s a gentle 2 to 3-hour walk down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where your driver will be waiting for you. You’ll be taken back to Meru View Lodge. After a refreshing shower, the rest of the day is yours to relax, enjoy the pool, or celebrate your fantastic achievement.Day 8: Arusha – Kilimanjaro Airport or Extend Your Journey
